Safrea typical rates are provided as a guideline to help freelancers ensure that they charge a rate that can feasibly cover their business expenses.

Safrea works to raise the professional standing of freelancers in the media field, and promotes professional standards and ethical conduct by both freelancers and their clients. Safrea recommends the following minimum rates as being fair and equitable industry standards, which employers should honour.

R 350.00 per hour for capturing and editing

R 150.00 per hour for capture

R 200.00 for exporting and backing up projects

A Safrea member adds:

For writing corporate scripts for DVDs and web-based audio/visual "Flash" presentations, a per-word amount would seem not to be the way to go. Usually this work relates to a time-based fee so for a 5-minute script with research one would start around R4,5 to R5K and move up from there. 10 minutes are going for between 8 and 12K depending on experience. This would include taking the brief, doing the research and would also include the concept or creative idea.
