Experience

I am a highly experienced analyst, journalist and writer looking for freelance work. My areas of greatest expertise are in business, economics, tourism and technology (especially biotech and engineering - my two degree specialisations).

I have a weekly column in the Cape Argus entitled Taking Stock on business analysis and insight.  I am a founder-member and contributor to Mindbullets.net, a weekly journal which predicts the future of social and economic trends; as well as for ScholarsandRogues.com, a blog on politics, economics and social trends.  I have experience in setting up and managing websites as well as in using web analytics software.

I also have a number of high-profile interviews to my credit, including CK Prahalad of "Fortune at the Bottom of the Pyramid" fame, Jimmy Wales of Wikipedia, Nobel Prize-winner Dr David Baltimore, and Gavin O'Reilly of Independent Newspapers.

O'Reilly had this to say, "It's no false praise - but I found the quality of questions most interesting and incisive (and certainly, a major and welcome departure from the all too many interviews that I do on the future of media!)"

Previous writing work includes:

  • Regular contributions on small business in the craft industry for the Cape Craft and Design Institute;
  • PG Glass' 110th anniversary book;
  • Technology-related issues for Arthur Goldstuck in an online column called iFire (on the, now defunct, Planet Pastel site);
  • Technology scenarios for Wolfgang Grulke of Futureworld;
  • A series of articles on small business for Enablis (Sheryl Ozinsky and Martin Feinstein) published in the Business Report;
  • Tax articles and matters of a more general nature for Big News and their then editor Barrie Terreblanche;
  • Radio show on Cape Talk on issues for small business (during 2002).

I am a highly capable and reliable writer able to work swiftly and to deadline.
